Southeast Alabama is a rural haven

Perhaps the most rural area of Alabama is the Southeast part of the state of which the largest metropolitan area is Dothan (metro pop. 135,000). Throughout this region are parks, antebellum homes, small attractions and piney woods. Lake Eufaula on the Alabama-Georgia border is a popular boating and fishing spot. But for the most part, this is a part of the world that is relatively unchanged and unspoiled by ubiquitous cell phones, pagers and Palm Pilots.

This is an area to go picnicking, biking, boating and fishing or golfing. The Visitor Information Center in Dothan proclaims the city as the “Peanut Capital of the World” and there is a local Peanut Butter Mill in the area.

There is an easygoing aura about this region of Alabama and property is very affordable. If you like wide-open spaces and country living, this section of Alabama is well worth exploring.
