Atlanta has something for everyone

Atlanta Region

*Atlanta (pop. 425,000) is the largest city in the South with a metro population of almost 5 million people. Those who really love the city and the inside of their automobiles love living in the hustle and bustle of Atlanta.

Those seeking a slightly slower pace of life can choose from an array of smaller locations outside of Atlanta, but near this huge metropolis.

Our picks are as follows:

*Braselton (pop. 3,000) is home to Chateau Elan Winery and Resort and the adjoining Chateau Elan residential development and golf course. Located just 50 miles northeast of Atlanta, this town was once owned by actress Kim Basinger. Once a backwater Georgia town, today it is an upscale golfing and country club community that is considered to be growing and progressive.

*Athens (pop. 104,000) is home to the University of Georgia and is one of the energized creative and somewhat liberal center of arts, culture and academics in the state. Athens is also home to two good hospitals, three golf courses and six local theaters. A local Learning in Retirement center offers classes taught by professionals. Anyone over 62 can audit at UGA at no cost. The town is pedestrian friendly and the cost of housing and cost of living is surprising to those with a big city background.

*Newnan (pop. 22,500) is a center of planned growth and activity for the west central Georgia region.  The city has five historic districts listed in the National Register of Historic Places.  The town square is quaint with renovated shops and restaurants. The town is an upscale suburb 40 miles southwest of Atlanta and is one of the fastest-growing spots in Georgia. Newnan has theater and plenty of cultural activities. You’ll find a great community calendar of events, as well. Newnan is a fresh, active, upscale town considered to be highly desirable by Georgians and newcomers.

*Peachtree City (36,000) is a planned development that has virtually no crime and great green space. Everybody rides a cart on the community golf cart trail that stretches 88 miles through the development. Peachtree City is a true community just 30 miles southwest of Atlanta.
