Southern Louisiana is unlike any other region in America

Cajun Country, as it’s called, is unlike any other region in America. “Laissez les bons temps rouler” or “Let the Good Times Roll” is the cry every year at Mardi Gras. But, hey, you don’t have to live on Bourbon Street to enjoy small town living with big city opportunities. The southern region is dotted with pepper farms, rice fields and crawfish ponds. There are 19th Century homes amid twisted oaks and coastal marshes. There are walking trails and nature trails and awesome scenery. The fishing villages with their European influences capture your attention and the history keeps you interested in South Louisiana.

But, remember, wherever you retire in South Louisiana, you will need to learn how to use the following terms easily: gumbo, etouffee’, cafe au lait, jambalaya and zydeco.
